Leaving your mark is often a source of serenity in a world filled with mystery. And that’s precisely what Banners let you do in Minecraft 1.20 Trails & Tales!
Although ordinary Banners are fun, they can get bland pretty quickly. That’s where customized Banners come in. Minecraft 1.20 allows you to go a step beyond the norms and create an almost endless amount of patterns for yourself through customized Banners!
How to Create Custom Banners?
You can create Custom Banners through a Loom in Minecraft 1.20 Trails & Tales. Using an Ordinary Banner, Dye, and Pattern as input – the Loom provides you with a customized version of your Banner as its output. Alternatively, a Crafting Table may also be utilized to create custom Banners.
Although you can create customized Banners using both the Loom and a Crafting Table, it’s much easier to use the Loom. With the latter, you have to memorize different patterns and manually input them.
On the other hand, the Loom makes this job much easier as you just have to point and click to choose among various different options. Nevertheless, we’ll cover each option below.
Loom

You’ll need to use up 2 pieces of String and Wooden Planks each to craft a Loom. You can refer to the image above for creating the utility block.
Using the Loom is pretty straightforward – the block has three different input slots. The first one holds the Banner you want to customize, the second slot holds dyes you’d like to use, and the last one takes in different Banner Patterns.
Simply place each object in its respective slot in the Loom, and you’ll be shown all of the patterns you can embed into your Banner. You can create a mix of different combinations and have up to 6 layers in total – so feel free to experiment around and see what works best.
Additionally, here’s a table showcasing all 6 of the premade Banner Patterns available to you in the game:
Pattern | Crafting Ingredients | Description |
---|---|---|
Thing Banner | Enchanted Golden Apple + Paper | Mojang’s Old Logo |
Skull Charge Banner | Wither Skeleton Skull + Paper | Crossbones & A Skeleton Skull |
Creeper Charge Banner | Creeper Head + Paper | A Creeper’s Face |
Flower Charge Banner | Oxeye Daisy + Paper | A Daisy Flower |
Field Masoned Banner | Bricks + Paper | A Brick Wall Pattern (Bedrock Only) |
Bordure Indented Banner | Vines + Paper | A Vines Pattern (Bedrock Only) |
These can be used for customization indefinitely once you’ve obtained them.
Lastly, If you don’t like the pattern you ended up with and want to revert it, you can always use a Cauldron filled with water to remove the topmost layer of your Banner.
Crafting Table

You may also use a Crafting Table to create customized Banners; however, this is discouraged because of the inconvenience of memorizing each pattern’s placement.
To create Banners this way, place the ordinary version of your Banner in the Crafting Table. Then, position the Dyes on the Crafting Grid corresponding to the custom pattern you want to embed in the Banner. You may now retrieve your customized Banner!
The downside to this technique is that you’ll have to memorize the crafting placement for each custom pattern you want to embed – which can be a real chore. On the other hand, using a Loom allows you to entirely skip this inconvenient requirement!
Pre-requisites for Creating Custom Banners
There are a few steps you’ll need to follow before you can craft Custom Banners in Minecraft 1.20 Trails & Tales. We’ve mentioned each of these below:

Before you create your custom patterns, you need to get your hands on a few resources. You’ll primarily need an ordinary Banner, which can be made using 6 blocks of Wool and a Stick. The Wool can easily be obtained from a few Sheep, whereas the Stick can be created from some Wood.

Before you customize your Banner – you need to create one! You can do so by using the resources gathered in the previous step. Simply place them on a Crafting Table, as done in the picture above, and collect your Banner.
You can also change the color of your Banner by using Dyes.
