#9: The Old Queen and New King
- Quest Giver: Galawain
- Location: Elms’ Reach/Teir Evron
When you are ready to select a god to pray to, head to Elms’ Reach and enter Teir Evron. Once inside, take the Luminescent Adra Shard from thealtaron right side of room and use it toactivateTeir Evron in the middle. This will start main quest “Council of Stars”.
The Old Queen and New King side quest is one of four side quest options that are a requirement for completing “Council of Stars”.
This belongs to god Galawain and his shrineis to the west. Before interact, go to shelfon chamber’s west side and take “Book of the Hunt” and inside it you will have the answer. Now activate shrine and select #3: “Survival begins with strength from within.” This will start this the side quest. Pray once more to see the vision about being in the woods, in a darkened room with candles behind you, and ahead you hear the howl of a hound. At the end select: Turn back to Teir Evron and go to Oldsong.
New Objective: Travel to the stone maw in Galawain’s vision
Enter dragon head cave known as Galawain’s Maw in Oldsong. As you enter the Galawain’s Maw, Galawain wants you to resolve the stalemate between Sul—Galawain’s favorite Lioness among all creatures of Eir Glanfath—and Oernos, a young but ferocious challenger to Sul’s title.
Go to the next room and talk to Einden, he explains that if you are here to see Oernos, then you are out of luck; he’s out for a hunt. Ask him what he’s doing here and why Oernos can’t fight the Lioness. Einden explains that the lioness, Sul, holes up in the back of the Maw, surrounded by her pride, and the natural hazards of this place make it difficult. Offer to take care of Sul.
Now go to the next room and speak with Desthwn. Ask him what’s wrong with the beasts. He replies, “They won’t fight.” Here ask anything within those 3 lines. After his reply, tell him you about vision. He gives you Galawain’s Maw Key and grants you permission to venture into the Maw. And your quest will update.
New Objective: Find the old lioness in Galawain’s Maw
Use key gave you to unlock door behind him and enter maw caverns. Here prepare to fight and use Scout mode to detect floor trap. Continue to south through the narrow passage toward the bridge. Do not cross the bridge; instead, continue to east into a den of Lions. Defeat them and inspect tangled thorns and vines on the easternmost wall, inspect vinesthat are blocking the passage to Sul’s den. They move as if they are breathing. Select: Try to sneak through the living wall. Halfway through, a party member steps on a dry, dead branch and a vine suddenly darts forward with unnatural speed, but you make it through unscathed. You suddenly find yourself in Sul’s den.
Once inside den,Lions greet you. Speak to Irensi. Ask her, “Why Sul refuses to face Oernos?” and “What are you (Irensi) doing here with Sul?”
After her replay these answers:
- “I’ll deal with Oernos.”
- “Sul isn’t the rightful champion.”
- “Goodbye (Leave).”
You must now decide who to side with and reward is the same on both sides.
If side with Oernos, select:
“Sul isn’t the rightful champion.”
After her reply choice answer:
- [Druid]Go and fight him yourself response.
- [Bleak Walkers]Go and fight him yourself response.
- [Hunter]Go and fight him yourself response.
- [Ranger]Go and fight him yourself response.
- Attack
- “Wait a minute. I want to reconsider this.”
Any option besides “attack” will convince Irensi to leave except for last one, all choices except the last one lead to a battle here. So, choose to attack and begin the battle.
New Objective: End the stalemate between Sul and Oernos in Galawain’s Maw
Once Sul goes down, quest will update and Oernos enters the Maw.
If side with Sul, answer following while talking with Irensi:
“I’ll deal with Oernos.”
After it head back and talk with Einden, who has joined Oernos, who has just entered the Maw.
New Objective: End the stalemate between Sul and Oernos in Galawain’s Maw
Talk to Einden, continue to talk and reach these options…
- “I could take care of Sul.”
- “Oernos isn’t the rightful champion.”
- “What are you doing here?”
- “Goodbye.”
Select second: “Oernos isn’t the rightful champion.”
After Einden reply you will have these options:
- [Fighter]“If Sul is so weak, then why doesn’t Oernos go after her? The dangers wouldn’t stop a worthy warrior.”
- [Hunter]Go and fight her yourself response.
- [Darcozzi Paladine]Go and fight her yourself response.
- [Attack]“Try me.”
- “Actually, I’m going to reconsider this.”
Any option besides “attack” will convince Einden to leave, except for last one, if you choose one of the options that encourages Orenos to go fight Sul, keep Einden out of fight. The quest updates after the battle is won.
New Objective: Return to Galawain at Teir Evron in Elms’ Reach
Talk to Desthwnto receive the Cat’s Claw. Now head back to Teir Evron and pray to Galawain.If you are prepared to have Galawain as your god to follow you through to the end, then answer with any responses you choose.But at the end choose, “I pledge now that I shall convert the captured souls into essence to strengthen the Dyrwood.”This completes the side quest.
