FANS and friends alike have paid tribute to Thor and Star Wars actor Ray Stevenson following his death aged 58.

The star's cause of death remains unknown after his death was confirmed by his publicist, reports Variety.

TheNorthern Irishstar was also known for having portrayed Dagonet in the filmKing Arthur. He also starred as Volstagg, one of Thor's trusted comrades, in the 2011 Marvel film Thor and played the main villain in the hit epic RRR.

Ray is set to have a part as a Dark Jedi in the upcoming Star Wars Ahsoka series on Disney+.

Paying tribute, one friend wrote: "I’m shocked and saddened by the tragic news that a great actor and my good friend Ray Stevenson has passed away. I will miss you Big Ray! Life is short so make the most of it people."

    Ray’s time on the big screen

    Stevenson was born in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, in 1964.

    After attending the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and years of working in British television, he made his film debut in Paul Greengrasss 1998 film The Theory of Flight.

    In 2004, he appeared in Antoine Fuquas King Arthur as a knight of the round table and several years later played the lead in the Marvel adaptation Punisher: War Zone.

    Aside from the first three Thor films, in which he played Volstagg, his other prominent film roles included the Divergent trilogy, G.I. Joe: Retaliation and The Transporter: Refuelled.

    Guardians Of The Galaxy director pays tribute to late star

    James Gunn took to Twitter yesterday to honour the late Ray Stevenson.

    Gunn had been involved in the production of Thor alongside Stevenson.
