This quest requires you complete the two quests before it, A Moment's Respite and The Ruins of Cilant Lis, before you can finish it, which is a special case for this quest since you get it at the start of the game. As such, this quest will be documented for what happens after you finish The Ruins of Cilant Lis quest, and how you reach Gilded Vale from there.

Once you finish the Ruins of Cilant Lis, you'll have enough experience to level up by this point in the game. Level up your character, and then rest once as well, since your character will be fatigued. Once you've done that, simply leave the area by going to where the machine is and heading south-east of it. Then, a map will open up and you can now go to Valewood.

Once you load up the map, you'll find a body to the left of your character. It will contain another campsite and some Leather Armor. Pick it up and then head south-west, down the cliff. Follow the trail until you reach a lamp post, and there will be an Outlaw in the higher difficulties of the game. Kill him, and then head east of the lamp post and you will see some bandits along with a cook. Kill the bandits (you can come back later if you can't yet) and talk to the cook. He'll thank you and tell you that he's the cook at an inn in the Gilded Vale, and leave. Pick up the loot in that area and then head back to the trail.

When you reach a bridge, you can go east of that area to find some ruins. There will be wolves guarding it on the higher difficulties. Once you defeat them and take their hides, there is a wall you can scale if you have enough Athletics, or if you have a Grappling Hook. If you don't, just come back to this area later in the game. At the top will be some Camping Supplies, Leather Armor, and Fulvano's Gloves, which give Reflex+5.

Head back to the trail, and you will find an NPC called Nonton near a tent. He'll tell you about a cave in the north-west part of the map that houses a cave, and inside of the cave there is a monstrous bear. If you wish to do this side-quest, you will be awarded with some nice loot as well as a possible Ring of Minor Deflection and/or Copper. However, it is recommended that you do this quest with more party members, as being alone will make it difficult to do the quest.

Continue south on the trail, and then you can select Gilded Vale from the map. Once you arrive, just follow the path and you'll spark a cutscene when you reach some stairs. You'll see a tree with around 18 people who are hung, and a man named Urgeat who is a servant of Lord Raedric, the lord of this land. After talking with him a bit, you'll find out that what happened regarding all these hung people: Lord Raedric believes that removing any Hollowborn children, infants born without souls, is one of his top priorities as the lord of Gilded Vale. Anyone who defies this law, or tries to curse the town of Gilded Vale, will be met with death. Urgeat will say that you cannot live here until Lord Raedric approves, and that until his new child is born, that you will have to wait for an interview. Once you've gotten all the information you need, you'll tell Urgeat goodbye, 3 bells will ring signaling the death of a Raedric. Urgeat will tell you that this means he cannot say that you will be able to stay here long because of this, and in the morning to find him again. He will tell you more then.

Once you've finished talking with him, the quest is finished. The next quest in the main storyline is Visions and Whispers.
